THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - September 8, 2000
USA - The countdown to the Doctor Who Nights in America continues. KTEH 54 in San Jose, CA is doing their local special live on Wednesday, October 18th from 8 to 11:15PM Pacific Time, while the National Night will be recorded on Saturday, October 21st for broadcast. KTEH has sent This Week a press release about the latest details of their night, and here it is:

Join KTEH (PBS, Silicon Valley, CA) in a journey to The Ends of Time: An Evening of Doctor Who with Sylvester McCoy and Carole Ann Ford. A celebration of the long history of Doctor Who, with a look at the series from the perspective of the stars who were there at the beginning and at the end (?) of this classic BBC science-fiction series.

The evening will consist of 5 episodes from the Doctor's 26-year run, starting at the beginning with An Unearthly Child, followed by a return journey to 1963 in the second episode of Remembrance of the Daleks. Then, it's a trip to the latter part of the 21st Century with the human race putting an end to the Daleks invasion of Earth in Flashpoint, and then on to the end of the regular series, and a visit from the Master, in the concluding episode of Survival.

The fifth installment will be selected from Sylvester McCoy's tenure, determined by a vote of the viewer's favorite episode with a pledge of support to help keep the Doctor's travels going into it's 20th consecutive year on KTEH. Fans will also be presented with the opportunity to phone in questions of both Sylvester McCoy and Carole Ann Ford regarding their work before, during and since Doctor Who. The Ends of Time: An Evening of Doctor Who airs Wednesday, October 18th from 8:00 to 11:15pm.

More details on both specials will be appearing here and in other places as the weeks count down. Stay tuned.
UK - Meanwhile, BCB's monthly radio/real audio program The Who Review changed its day and time of airing back in April. The show now airs at about 7:10PM British Time on the first Thursday of the month, and runs 40-some minutes, instead of its former 30 minutes. The most recent broadcast aired yesterday (September 7), and the next one will air on October 5. There are currently no rerun times scheduled or web archives, so you either have to listen live or get a friend to tape it. The Who Review covers the latest audio/video/book releases and discusses the current Doctor Who events in the UK. The website is http://www.bcb.yorks.com/ . BCB is an independent station originating from Bradford in the UK, and is available in much of the surrounding area via Cable Radio, and to the rest of the world via their real audio stream on the internet.

Yesterday's Who Review broadcast discussed the audio releases of The Highlanders & The Macra Terror, the Panoptican convention (Invasion of the Dinosaurs apparently coming out on BBC Video in 2002 with episode 1 in color), and the DVD release of The Robots of Death.
USA - KTEH San Jose, CA, in addition to preparing a Doctor Who night, is also putting together two Doctor Who music videos to air as filler material around their science fiction programming. If you live in their viewing area, keep an eye out for it.
USA - Finally, a few of the PBS stations have been less than reliable lately in airing the advertised episodes. However, until I get better information, I will revert to listing the episodes they claim to be showing. If there's an error, let me know, I will note it here the following week, and maybe progress on accuracy can be made.

Sun 7AM, Late Sun 1AM AEDT The Curse of Peladon all 4 eps
‘Greetings, citizens of the galaxy! I am Alpha-Centauri, and this is my talk show that I still can't decide on a name for. On today's programme - should Peladon join the Galactic Federation? We will be speaking to an Ice Warrior, the delegate from Arcturus, the Peladonian monarchy, some Pel rebels, and a shady alien impersonating the Earth delegate. But first, a word from our sponsor - Indecision Anonymous.'
Mon-Tue 11:30PM AEDT The Sea Devils eps 5 - 6 of 6
Can the Doctor make peace with the Sea Devils, or will the Master inspire them to practice the art of war once again? Underwater sequences aplenty in a story aided by the British Navy.
Wed-Fri 11:30PM AEDT The Mutants eps 1 - 3 of 6
The 3rd Doctor, Jo, and a puzzle box arrive on a space station above Solos, in search for the reasons why the Time Lords would send them there. Something shady's going on, and for once, it's not the Master's scam. Probably.

Mon-Fri 6:30PM The War Games eps 1 - 5 of 10
Never before televised in New Zealand. The 2nd Doctor's last story. World War I is underway, but something just isn't quite right. More twists and turns than a twisty turny thing, and I better not say what they are, because most of you probably haven't seen this one yet.

A ball of hate invades the TARDIS, using the ship as a tool to invade Earth and subjugate humanity in the 15th Century. Lots of swordplay, though the ball of hate doesn't get to take part. A shame, really. It would be fascinating to watch pure energy attempt to fight with a sword.

The Doctor and Sarah land in a rock quarry that looks suspiciously like an alien planet. After an explosion, Sarah discovers a fossilized hand. When the hand comes to life, Sarah apparently goes insane ...

KTEH 54 San Jose, CA http://www.kteh.org/
Sun 11PM PDT Revelation of the Daleks both 45 minute episodes
Final story to use 45 minute episodes. Last story before the 1985 hiatus. Eric Saward's wit and violence go to new heights in this story, where a mortuary is used as cover for Davros' efforts to build a new race of Daleks loyal to him. But power is fleeting, as no fewer than three separate schemes to destroy Davros' work is underway, and even the Doctor is stopping by. Some days it doesn't pay to be a megalomaniac.

(Keep an eye out for the KTEH Doctor Who music videos. Coming soon.)

Thanks for reading. Until next week, take care.
